Frequently asked questions

How do you go about changing film to DVD?

We firstly capture the film to computer where we can edit, delete any unwanted bits, tweak the colour settings etc, add music and titles to make a professional production, before finally "burning" the finished production on to a blank DVD disc.

Can you transfer 35mm slides?

Yes we can transfer slides to DVD to make a slideshow. Each slide is normally on screen for 10 seconds before cross-fading into the next. To keep a slide on screen for longer you simply press the "pause" button on your DVD player. Again music and titles can be added for further enjoyment.

Do you do Wedding Videos?

Yes we do. We can video the whole event for you, or just part of it, eg the ceremony etc. We always use a minimum of two cameras when filming "live" events so that in the unlikely event that one camera should fail, we always have a safeguard.

Do you convert VHS to DVD?

I have some super 8 film transfers. Can you help?

No problem. We will put your films onto to a DVD disc and you'll be able to watch them on a TV set.

Do you do VHS to CD transfer?

We can create an MPEG file which we can then put onto a CD. However you will not be able to watch the video without a computer.

Can you transfer my tape to DVD?

As long as it is film or video tape we can transfer it to DVD. If it is audio tape we would transfer it to a CD so it could be played on any CD player.

How long does it take to transfer VHS video to DVD?

It rather depends on how busy we are at the time but we are able to turn most jobs round within 2-5 days.

How much 8mm cine film can I fit on a single disc?

Would it be possible to have a "still" image from the film on the front cover, and how much extra would that cost?

What about copyright material?

Copyright law is a very complex area and unfortunately we can't transfer or duplicate copyright material without the owner's consent. By placing an order with us you accept full liability for any copyright issues that may arise.

Wouldn't I be better off buying a DVD recorder?

Buying a DVD recorder is certainly one way to transfer your video onto disc. However whilst this method is certainly quick and possibly cheaper, it can be notoriously unreliable. Furthermore you can't select which parts of the tape you want, and which you don't want. Also you won't have a printed label.

Can you make DVD's which will play in other countries?

Yes we can produce DVDs on both the PAL and NTSC system. Simply let us know which country the DVD will be played in and we will supply you with the appropriate format (or both).

Why does it cost so much more to transfer sound cine film than silent film?

Simply because it takes twice as long. Firstly we capture and process the picture. Then we have to run the film again to capture the sound. Then comes the really hard part - synchronising the two together. There's nothing worse than a badly dubbed film!

Do I get the original films back?

Yes the films are returned along with the DVD. You never know, you may lose the DVD or it may get damaged. The best thing is to preserve them in a cool dark place.

Lots of other companies have hidden costs, do you?

No. There are no extra hidden costs at all. We do not charge extra for menus or chapters, or if your films have been wound on the reel the wrong way, or even not rewound at all. Nor do we charge extra if we need to repair your film, e.g. if a splice has come undone etc.

Do you copy protect the completed DVD?

No we do not copy protect the finished DVDs. This is your material, your memories and your DVD to do with as you wish. You may copy it a hundred times - without any loss of quality. Of course if you cannot copy yourself then we can always do it for you.

Should I upgrade to Blue ray?

Blue ray is the future for DVDs. However if you don't yet have an HD (high definition) TV watching Blu-ray discs is pointless as the signal is downgraded to standard definition. Also if you have an HD TV less than 37" it is difficult to see real quality benefits with HD,... and certainly there will only be tiny discernible differences between the two.
